A Whale of a Tale

I've a whale of a tale to tell ye lads . . . or is it a tale of a whale?
We found a mama whale where she had beached herself to die,
and the orphaned baby searching, brought teardrops to each eye.
She was christened Springer by those who cared about her plight.
She had bonded with the Ferrys which she followed day and night.
Where e'er you saw a Ferry, no matter where it went
she followed in it's wake and her love was evident.
She'd rub against and nuzzle, and it's passengers were charmed
not taking into account that this could cause her to be harmed.
We were in a quandary, should we reunite her with her pod?
Or should we just ignore, and leave her in the Hands of God?
Why had she swam away from them, did this mean that she was ill?
Should we try to intervene, were we an instrument of His Will?
We decided it was best to capture her and check on her condition.
We captured and examined her, provided medication and nutrition.
Then transported her to Canadian waters to rejoin her family,
and watched contientiously in hopes that we would see
that they had accepted her and made her feel at home . . .
and so welcome and so comfortable that she'd no more roam.
At first she swam behind them, as uncertain of her place.
A mama Orca claimed her, and with her shared her space.
We were feeling hopeful that she would be content
to travel with her family, her wanderlust well spent.
But then one day Springer sensed a vibration she well knew . . .
It was her beloved Ferry, calling, calling . . .oh, what was she to do?
She started out to follow and reunite with her old friend.
But her new mama Orca stopped her, and convinced her to put an end
to her hopeless infatuation for a love that could never be . . .
and to live up to her intended fate of swimming with her family . . . forever free!
Now friends, you tell me . . . is this a whale of a tale . . .
. . . . or is it the wonderful tale of a whale?
