Virtues

Conscience is that little voice
that we sometimes ignore.
When we get so we can't hear it,
it will bother us no more.
-
Innocence is that blessed time
before we learn to sin,
and conscience finds it easy
to keep us pure within.
-
Ignorance, the poets say
is the state that's known as bliss.
In ignorance one can err,
and fault and blame they miss.
-
With knowledge comes guilt,
and guilt can kill the soul.
Forgiveness is the precious gift
that makes us once more whole.
-
Wisdom is the virtue
that would be my choice.
Perhaps with wisdom I would
listen to that wee small voice.
