Is it all a fairy tale
encircling the earth,
of Mary and of Joseph
and the Virgin Birth?
-
What about the Christmas Star
shining, oh so bright?
Did it come to lead the way
on that wondrous night?
-
Was it really Gabriel's
voice, the shepherd heard,
proclaiming Good News to man
from the Living Word?
-
It has been two thousand years
since that wint'ry morn,
when little Baby Jesus was
in a stable, born.
-
Why do we still remember?
Why do we rejoice?
Why is there still that urging
of an inner voice?
-
If it is a fairy tale,
no harm do I see
in trusting and receiving
God's great gift to me.
-
But, if it should be the truth,
that God sent His Son,
each man who disbelieves
will miss the joys I've won.
-
Which one of us is foolish?
Which one missed the mark?
One believes without seeing,
one clings to the dark.
