Mom and Daddie told her that
there'd be no Christmas tree,
she would have to understand
that trees didn't come for free.
-
Daddie had been out of work
and times were really tough.
They'd have some toys for Christmas,
which would have to be enough.
-
On the day of her school party,
the teacher told them at the break,
"If anybody wanted it, the
Christmas Tree was their's to take."
-
When Mother saw her coming,
a big lump was in her throat.
Here came her tiny daughter
dragging a tree, big as a boat.
-
From that day to this, no
matter how tight things got'
one vow would not be broken,
a Christmas Tree would be bought.
-
If it was so important to
their darling little daughter,
then they would find a way,
come drought or high water.
