Apology

When you married my Dad
I can't say I was thrilled.
I had recently lost my mother,
her life so abruptly stilled.
-
I resented the evil fates
that took her away from me,
and the needs my father felt
then, I could not see.
-
It did not go unnoticed,
the effort that you made.
You showed your integrity
and that games would not be played.
-
My Dad was a good man,
(tho of faults he had his share)
gut what makes a good man better
is having a good woman care.
-
So, Marie, please forgive me
if I made the going rough.
You made my father happy
and for me that is enough.
-
I have grown to respect you
and to love you as a Mother.
I have one Mother long departed,
but in you I've found another.
