My Muse

On how to write a poem
there are several schools of thought.
Some require discipline and
this avails me naught.
-
I can only write
when inspired by my muse,
my feeble mind alone is a fire~
cracker with no fuse.
-
Ah . . . but when she
comes upon me, inspiration is a flame,
burning deep within, enrapturing
my brain.
-
I can no more
halt the cataract of words
than summertime could come without
the song of birds.
-
My syntax and my
grammar may be a bit off key,
the experts may reject the verse that
issues forth from me,
-
but I am so ful~
filled by pouring out my soul
when I step aside and my muse
is in control.
