Spotted Dowels

I heard that spotted dowels

were fast becoming extinct.

So I decided to do my bit

with some wood and pen and ink.

I also heard them talk about

timber, that older grew

as if dowels could not be

made of timber that was new.

-

So I took my trusty wood lathe

and carved out some dowels.

With pen and ink I spotted them,

Behold! A flock of spotted dowels!

If I make a lot of them

I'll use a lot of timber

which will put men back to work

making the economy more limber
