I discovered another letter I had written to the paper several years ago, when Jimmy Swaggart was in trouble.
Christian Message Still Good
As a Christian, I'm naturally upset about all the bad publicity concerning TV Evangelists. But probably not as upset as non-Christians, because I do know these men are human and subject to temptation. That does not make it right, just understandable.
It would be difficult to receive the kind of adulation they do without becoming all puffed up with pride. The Bible says, 'Pride goeth before a fall', and we all know the bigger they are the harder they fall. I guess both statements are being proven.
If these allegations are correct, they need to be made public. If they are not correct , it gives the accused the opportunity to answer his accusers.
We need to be careful however, not to throw the baby out with the bath water. The Christian message is still good, and true. It's Christ we follow, not the man who preaches Him. Man is fallible.Only God is infallible. Please remember, it's not God who has failed man, but man who has failed God. And they will have to answer to Him.
