The Angels held a contest,
to see who would be the one,
to tell about the coming
of the Father's only Son.

The last created Angel
thought he didn't stand a chance
against the utmost wisdom,
talent and experience
-
possessed by other Angels,
serving God through ages past.
Then came the ultimatum,
to the entire Angel cast.
-
Every Angel must enter.
Not one Cherub could refuse.
They must join in this contest
to spread God's wondrous news.
-
So, each in turn, submitted
to God, their love for His Son.
And God judged each one fairly,
choosing which would be the one.
-
He called them all together,
explaining as He'd rehearsed,
"The first shall, of course be last,
and the last shall be the first.
-
Come forth My newest Angel.
Go out! The glad tidings tell,
of the birth of God's own Son,
Jesus Christ, Emanuel!"
